USED

In my music video there were many conventions of the Pop genre that I used in the creation of my own music video.

One convention that I adhered to throughout my music video was the mise-en-scene, which is a strong feature of pop music videos. Pop music videos use a lot of mise-en-scene in order to make sure that the narrative is as detailed and realistic for the audience as possible. I kept a strong focus on the use of mise-en-scene as it was important to convey the message through the narrative, I had to make sure that the identities were clearly shown through the use of locations, props and costumes.

Typically pop music videos use bright and modern costumes and fashion, this is a convention that I adhered to in my own music video. The convention of the artist wearing modern fashion is used to show that the artist is up-to-date and current which is necessary in order to keep up with the pop genre. Strong, bright colours are also used in pop music videos as they attract the audiences attention and keeps them engaged. I used this convention in order to attract the audiences attention and to help the audience identify mine as a pop music video.

Another convention that I adhered to in my music video is the use of close ups in order to show the artist. THEORIST said that this was done in order to make sure that the audience clearly saw the identity of the artist. I followed this convention as it allows the audience to feel closer and that the artist is more relatable to their fans.

In many Pop music videos a mixture of lighting styles are used such as high and low key, natural and unnatural light. I used all of these different types of lighting, the performance sections of the music video were filmed in unnatural, low key lighting using coloured lamps, whereas the narrative elements of the music video, were filmed using natural lighting during the day in order to achieve high key lighting. I used this variety to make the music video look more dynamic and interesting, in order to keep the audience engaged.

I used bright colours such as reds and blues for the lights in the performance sections and the actress wore bright clothing in the narrative scenes as this fit the convention of Pop music videos in using bright colours.

A convention that I adhered to was to dress the actress in modern trends, for example the leather jacket, white t-shirt and jeans in an up-to-date fashion. This convention is used to portray the artist as up-to-date and modern which is an important part of the Pop genre as it shows they are able to keep up with the latest fashion and trends which is paramount for the changing image of Pop.
